i've decided to start a new collab to make my life even more hectic than it already is ❤️
SO, HERE IS MY IDEA!!!!
each person will be assigned a unique time signature ranging from 1/4 all the way up to 16/4
(1/4 -> 2/4 -> 3/4 -> 4/4 -> 5/4 etc)
when you join, you can pick what time signature you want, but if it’s taken i’ll give you the closest available one or you can decide a different one
rules:
1. your song needs to be rated E
2. follow NG guidelines (pls i like not being banned )
3. your section should be 16-32 bars long (keep it consistent)
4. try to make your ending transition nicely into the next person
5. tempo is 140 and key is A# MINOR
STICK TO YOUR TIME SIGNATURE (no cheating halfway through)
how to submit:
send your part to me in dms (they’re open), or ping me in the channel when it’s done
i’ll handle putting everything together into one full track
PLEASE SEND FULL AUDIO (don’t cut off reverb/delay tails, it makes transitions smoother)
deadline:
ion know
message if you need the collab to be extended!
-# as you can see this is very similar to slowly but surely (edited)
i dont know whats going on and havent read the rules but i accept

dude I would have LOVEDDDDDDDDD to join but this is unreasonable for me for like 3 months :/
Have fun guys! (btw you guys might wanna change some time sigs. Like 12/4 is bs lol, it's just trying to make your song roughly work in groups of 3 bars of 4/4. 8/4 is even worse. Let yourselves have fun with wonkier stuff like 11/16 or 7/8!)
I've played quite a lot with time sigs in my life
Not to explore them, but just because they are useful
so this would have been funnn nghrufhobiuezrhefpz
yeah if no one wants 8/4 or 12/4 (because those frankly suck), you might want to change them if people want other ones!
I only see more fun that way 0_0

4/4 but the lead guitarist accidentally selected the metronome track for the song in 9/8 that is coincidentally exactly the tempo that he is now playing 9/8 in the tempo of 11-tuplets here
dude 1/4 is giga crap
you need to make it incoherent enough so that you can't group ANY NOTE (because yeah 1 quarter note = 1 bar in 1/4) so that we can't feel it as 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4 (or anything else)
So your best bet is to make... crap
groupings of 16 (or debatably 32) eighth notes
16/8 is a crappy time sig and no one in their right mind would use it to count a song (because it's too big to make you understand the song)
But it was a challenge and I'd say that you did it as best as it was possible
Guess who got really fucking busy with school and life this month

On the bright side I was able to brainstorm abt my part and now I think I’m ready to cook
-# all imma say is it won’t be what you’d expect from my normal stuff(edited)

that's something I hate explaining...
let's break it down using 2 point of views!
if we're following descriptivism, then counting it in 11/4 or 11/8 is valid. It simply depends on how you feel the timesig and BPM (so how you count the song).
if we're following prescriptivism, which I've been doing since the beginning of this collab (because of how precise—and cool!—the concept is), then it's 11/4. As BPM has little room for subjectivity if you went to (or rather endured...) a music conservatory. And your song is in 140 BPM (roughly maybe, I don't have the project file).
But I'm willing to bet that you set "70" as the BPM in your DAW! When doing that, counting the song in 11/8 makes sense, but then the BPM you set isn't the academically """correct""" BPM. Pretty sure that's what happened, no?(edited)
5:45 PM
btw you're not the only one to have done this before. Because first: who cares about your internal project's BPM? Second, who cares about trying to make a time sig as precise as possible besides music conservatories, and third, I know multiple composers who did the same
Just started prcisely studying the BPMs in this channel because of how cartesian the concept is hehe (I love this concept and I'm sad that it happened in this time of the year ._.)

Yeah, 140 bpm
I believe it's in the rules but lemme check

I also forgot to mentions I was in a competition where I had to make a full song in like 2 days, so I couldn't work all weekend I finished it tho so yeah. Shouldn't be any more interruptions(edited)
is the deadline still friday lol
idk if i’m gonna be able to meet it anymore; i will try my darndest but between my last update and now i have gotten a lot busier
"But your honour, my client should receive at least 90% of the money made from this song since he can prove he forced the creator to use a specific time signature"
Making it 16 bars is always an option if u don't wanna do 32 :D
Unless 16 isn't allowed anymore cuz of the 32s but i feel like it should be (?) allowed
1:05 PM
I remember someone saying smth abt consistency, das why idk if 16 is allowed anymore
But if it is, you can do 16
I'm a science student and I still cannot get a precise definition of what's the border between doubling the BPM and doubling the denominator of the time sig when I ask anyone at the conservatory
yeah it was the """academically""" right choice
fun fact, Toby Fox consistently, and I mean consistently composes with their DAW's BPM multiplied by 2
So if the song is at 100BPM, the DAW project is at 200 bruh

actually maybe it is if you're one of those dumbasses that bases the bpm of speedcore songs on how fast the kicks are instead of the actual percieved beat(edited)
