DJ Chidow returns to give the people more good music! We come back to Jack the Box under a different direction... TECHNO. That's right, we're doing Techno this time around. MUZIQUE (Musicians/songwriters): I challenge the musicians to make a Techno track using specific genre styles to your own fitting. Any person can make a Techno track of any subgenre and post it. Just no mainstream stuff please. Anything that sounds like modern EDM. BPMs I will be working with is 130, 135, 140, 145 and 150. Anything past that becomes Breakbeat or straight Jungle. Hardstyle and Gabber is fine. Tech House is an exception for anyone wanting to do House as well. The final product will be played out as a DJ mix, live in one take. Examples of Accepted Genres: 80s (Detroit Techno, Acid, Electro, Synth-disco) 90s (Dub Techno, Minimal Techno, Hardstyle/Hardcore, Gabber) Y2k (Trance/GOA, IDM/Industrial, Tribal, Hardgroove/Schranz) 10s (Ambient, Melodic Techno, Breakcore, Progressive Techno) [PLEASE DON'T FEEL LIMITED TO DOING JUST ONE STYLE, BE CREATIVE.] As stated before, NO MODERN EDM please. VOX (voice-actors/voice-overs/singers): Vocalists and VAs can choose what track a musician posts to wanna hop on. Techno is all about Dancing. Write about how you feel or just about what Techno means to you. Express yourself with all of your pride in writing to any track. (edited)

RULES: Songs must be 6 minutes max, Minimum time is 3 minutes, Don't submit anything under 3 minutes, as it will be an issue coming up with going to mix it live. Make sure to keep within that time frame. If you go over, no more than 30 seconds. ANYTHING UNDER 3 MINUTES WILL BE REMOVED Submissions can have at most 4-5 people, I will accept solo submissions as well if you wanna fly that way. You are limited to 1-2 Songs and multiple Collab invites for Musicians; and for Voice Acting/Singers, 4 Songs in total to be on. Any track that is solo submissions are limited to 1 or 2 tracks. BE CORDIAL AND RESPECTFUL. SUBMISSIONS: DM me a link to your submission on either Google Drive, WeTransfer, Dropbox or MEGA. The file needs to be a wave file [.wav] at 48kHz sample rate with bitrate of either 24 or 32-float. Title must be included in your song. Credit everyone who contributed. Make sure the usernames are spelled and capitalized correctly and credit them so it's apparent what role they played in the track. If you are unable to submit a wave file in this specific criteria, an .mp3 at 320kbps is accepted as well. DO NOT MASTER YOUR TRACKS, leave -3 or -6 dB for mixing headroom as well as no effects on the master bus. Your submission will be denied if it peaks past 0dB. (edited)

Just to make sure: What is the theming of the collab? Or is there no theming? Is dimrain-style techno fine? I wanna make some of that, i haven't done that in quite a while now. Is jumpstyle/hardjump (same thing, but it's more convenient for me to call it jumpstyle) fine? Here's an explanation of what jumpstyle is, if you don't know: It's a subgenre of hardstyle which, although started in the late 10s and not early 10s, is focused on making music IN THE STYLE of the early 10s/00s. So much so that many of the tracks include years in their names (like my friend's track, Ameknat - ULTIMATE-DESTRUCTION_2008 (there are asterisks in the name, it's not supposed to be italic lmfao) for example, or STAKILLAZ - WINTER--BOOTLEG?-2007 (i think it was supposed to be bold this time? idk, it has asterisks in its name) ) It uses a bunch of weird samples (both vocal and non-vocal) and sounds extremely dirty, but that is the point of jumpstyle, it's supposed to replicate the feeling of partying with your friends in the 00s with weird hardstyle, and having shitty speakers cuz you're broke and technology in your country isn't the best at the time. Ok, thx! Dimrain techno uses ONLY stock FL Sytrus presets, legacy FL drum packs, FL SymSynth sound effects and some other stock FL Studio stuff. it is based on how the producer Dimrain47 made his songs

And also, Dynamic EQ with the right settings going into a limiter can effectively be rendered into an "unmastered" -3 to -6 track, so why not?

For example, I put one TDR Nova on it, reduce the input gain to -6 but don't mess with anything else, then an adapative limiter set to -3. The result would be practically the same as if I had reduced the volume of all individual mixer tracks by the same amount or more, but doing it like that would still allow me to easily mix and master the track the way I want it later on, so again, why not?

What I might do then is a couple of different versions, one without anything on the master channel and all mixer channels reduced to the needed amount. But if I get the exact dynamic range you need from just a few basic master channel plugins then I still don't see how it would be a problem

It's okay. Reconstruction and deconstruction are pivotal parts of producing a track. If need be, definitely try to get more fluid with the sound design once you have a solidified idea.

I think that's fine so long as they are royalty free but to be extra safe, transform them somehow. Murkier territory is extended vocal or copyrighted music samples

Pretty much. If anyone joins and does Trance off rip, I won't take it. I don't want just a barrage of Trance tracks for a collab based around TECHNO. Those who already did Trance I'll use it depending on how it will work/go in the mix. The goal is to try other forms of Techno intsead of just Trance. (edited)

Hardstyle and Gabber is fine. Tech House is an exception for anyone wanting to do House as well. The final product will be played out as a DJ mix, live in one take. Right I have not added any more to the arrangement of this track yet but for fun I decided to try a test mixdown of what I have so far that's up to your "no mastering" specifications. This one peaks at -1.5 at some points but otherwise hovers comfortably around -4 to -2.

But it is like an entirely different mix than to what I had. Had to fight the urge to bring the mixer faders back up to where they were and just putting the gain staging on the master instead. Right I have not added any more to the arrangement of this track yet but for fun I decided to try a test mixdown of what I have so far that's up to your "no mastering" specifications. This one peaks at -1.5 at some points but otherwise hovers comfortably around -4 to -2.

I dig this, but it's definitely short. So keep this mix style and work on extending the track some more. I don't wanna can this, it's great.

@DJ Chidow quick question, when i finish mixing for the most part and start to make headroom can i just touch the master fader or do i gain stage everything else normally (edited)

I'm not Chidow, but I'll give my two cents. If you're in-the-box, yeah using the fader or a gain plugin on the master to create headroom is fine as long it's done properly and your levels/dynamics are sensible, and your floor isn't getting messed up. But but but, it is good practice to ensure busses and channels are balanced right so you don't have to mess with the 2-bus as much. Otherwise , gain staging AS YOU GO is the most sensible option (if only I could take my own advice lol). Hope this helps (edited)
